   The Jeff Prewitt Award

   Jeff Prewitt

    Warrior Little Chigger Catcher

    1964 - 1979

As his fellow Scouts helped him, so this award will help his fellow Scouts.

Jeff was a member of Troop 60, Boy Scouts of America of Savannah from 1974 until his death in December of 1979. Jeff,  a high school student, was interested in many things including track and cross country, but his most active involvement was  in Scouting. Jeff was  devoted to Scouting, and except for the final completion of his Eagle Project, had attained his Eagle Rank at the time of his  accidental death.  His fellow Scouts completed his project (see below).  Jeff's Eagle Award  was presented to his parents in July of 1980 on Black Hawk Ridge at Camp Geiger, the site of the Jeff Prewitt Memorial Praire (more information appears below).

Although Jeff has been gone for more than 25 years, Troop 60 stands by our committment of continuing the legacy of Scouts helping Scouts by continuing to remember Jeff through this award.

The Jeff Prewitt Award consists of  fully paid camperships to Camp Geiger for any qualifying member of Troop 60. The award is given after careful consideration of answers to a series of essay questions. The number of camperships granted in a given year is decided upon by the governing body of Savannah Troop Support Unit, Inc., a charitable trust. For more information regarding this award, see any adult Troop 60 leader.

Jeff Prewitt Memorial Prairie

In May of 1981,  through the combined efforts of the Missouri Department of Conservation, the Boy Scouts of America, the Missouri Prairie Foundation, and Suzanne Bowlin, aunt of Warrior Little Chigger Catcher, the Jeff Prewitt Memorial Prairie was established on Black Hawk Ridge, at Camp Geiger. Prairie was chosen as a memorial to Jeff because of its everlasing qualities, its year round beauty, and its reminder of our heritage.
